The Original Birth Weight Bear

A cute keepsake bear that can be weighted to match your little ones birth weight.

Each bear is handcrafted with love and special care giving each one its unique appearance and personality. They have a faux leather nose but I can change to felt/fabric if required. The limbs are fixed and do not move.

They stand at around 12” from bum to head and approx. 12” wide.

This bear can be weighted up to 9lbs and are weighted using steel micro discs.

You can choose to add a dust bag which is a cotton drawstring bag with the Mint Jelly Keepsake logo embroidered on it.

What materials can be used? I can work with cottons, polycottons, baby blankets, Babygro's, shirts, T-shirts, denim, dresses and those similar. I wouldn’t recommend anything loose knit that will unravel when cut. Please message me if you need to check your chosen fabric. Garments need to be clean and not damaged or torn, no need to iron.

How much fabric is needed? 6-8 pieces work best, in the cases of new born/premature additional pieces will be required, this can be discussed. If you wish to only incorporate one garment, this is no problem as I can use a contrasting fabric. I can make one keepsake from one adult piece of clothing, top or trousers.

How does it work? My address will be sent to you via email once payment is made. You then need to package your clothes along with a note of your name or order number so I know it’s yours and post to me. I will send you a message once I’ve received your order, then once again with a picture when I’ve made your keepsake before I post back to you.

What’s the personalisation? You can choose to add personalisation to all keepsakes. This will be done by machine embroidery, I choose a colour that complements your keepsake, but if you require a certain colour, that’s no problem! Please check all spellings and punctuation on your personalisation, as I will embroider exactly what is written. With these bears, you have the option of embroidering one or two feet.

How do I care for my weighted bear? All the seams are double stitched to reinforce them but they do need to be handled with care due to the weight and the worn fabrics. Minimal handling is advised and holding under the bum rather than by the arms or the head.

Please note that whilst these keepsakes may be attractive to children, they are NOT toys, they are ornaments. They cannot be CE tested as they are made from your clothes, therefore testing is not a possibility. They don't carry the CE mark, it is intended as a keepsake and not for children under the age of 14. They will be stuffed with polyester hollow fibre that conforms to the fire and furnishings (fire) (safety) regulations 1988. I use toy safety eyes and nose is hand embroidered.
